Ken Mortimer

How did you get involved with pride and why?
Having organised the ‘Paws with Pride’ event last year I wanted to get involved in some of the more challenging aspects of staging the festival.

What is your role?
Committee Member

If money was no object who would be your ideal Northern Pride headliner?
I’m too young for Judy and too old for Kylie! My ideal Northern Pride headliner would be 70s singers Tina Charles or Madeline Bell or maybe even Wakefield lass Jane McDonald!

What was the first record you ever bought?

‘Melting Pot’ by Blue Mink

What skills and qualities do you bring to the Northern Pride committee?
I bring enthusiasm, commitment, good organisational and financial management skills to the committee. I’m the co-ordinator for the lesbian, gay, bisexual network in a large government department. I’m also the chair of Gay Men Tyneside and the Stag Group – so I’ve a lot of experience in working with the community. For the fun element, I’m in the process of trying to establish a choir for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people – Northern Proud Voices.
