Newcastle Ravens to Stage Strip Show at Boulevard
The North East’s premier gay inclusive rugby club, the Newcastle Ravens are set to reveal their brand new strip in a glamour-filled gala evening at Boulevard Newcastle on Thursday 13th October, fronted by the legendary Miss Rory, where the team will also unveil Powerhouse nightclub as their brand new strip sponsor.

Tickets are selling fast for the evening, which will feature performances from Duke’s Cabaret Showdolls and six burlesque stage acts, all held together by the fabulous Miss Rory and her world-renowned put-downs. The Ravens’ nominated good cause, Thrive NE, which works to provide support for people living with HIV in the North East of England, will also be represented.

“We’re really excited for the new season and pleased to be working with Copenhagen 1801, the owners of Powerhouse and Boulevard, as our new lead sponsor,” said James McKane, chair of the Newcastle Ravens. “We wanted to kick off the partnership with something really special and the kit launch party is the perfect chance to reveal our new look.”

The Ravens currently play in the Northumberland RFU Coquet League and the team are already fundraising to take a team to the Union Cup next year. This is a biennial competition for gay inclusive rugby clubs from across Europe, which Newcastle bid to host in 2017, getting down to the final two cities, before losing out to Madrid.
“The Ravens have been a big part of the Newcastle gay scene for a decade now, so it’s great to be supporting them as they aim for another 10 years of success,” said Dan Cunningham, whose alter ego Miss Rory will be keeping order on the night. “When we thought about a great launch venue for the new kit, Boulevard was the obvious choice and we’ll be sure to get things going with a bang.”

Supporters the Ravens’ charity partner Thrive NE will also be there on the night to enjoy the show and talk about their work supporting those with HIV in the region. The group, which has grown from four members to 36 in just one year, is aiming to provide a space where people living with HIV can go for advice, support, advocacy and opportunities to meet others.

“We’re so grateful to the Ravens for selecting us as their nominated good cause and inviting us to share in their big kit launch party,” said Draw Dalton, chair of Thrive NE. “We’re a young charity, but we have big ambitions to support as many as possible of the 107,000 people in the UK living with HIV, so we welcome any support from other gay inclusive organisations in the region.”

Door open at 7pm on Thursday 13th October and tickets, which cost £10, are available from the Boulevard box office or online at
